Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to ship?

This is currently a side-gig to my side-gig. I will endeavor to be as quick as possible, but it may take a bit!

For custom anodized products, I am moving to a once-monthly schedule. I will try to anodize the previous month’s orders on the first weekend of every month. Sometimes delays may still arise — please feel free to contact me if something comes up, or you’re working towards a particular timeline.

How durable is titanium anodizing?

Titanium color anodizing is not quite like aluminum anodizing: it’s a very thin, transparent oxide layer; and although it is harder than the underlying metal, it will wear off under normal use.

How about red? Or black?

Unfortunately I can’t anodize to black, and red is very difficult. The keychain #15 below is literally the single reddest object I have ever created with this process. It requires a hazardous electrolyte (1M sulfuric acid), and typically comes out a sort of burgandy/wine color.

Currently, I can’t do full backers in this burgandy color, only smaller parts.

Why is my keychain changing color?!

It might be the lighting! Titanium anodized colors change tremendously depending on lighting and angle. Check this out:

You can also expect the color to appear to change during handling. Because the color derives from thin-film interference of the oxide layer, anything that changes the apparent thickness of that film (for example, oils from your skin or water) will also change the color!

To ‘reset’ the color, try wiping it down with some isopropyl alcohol on a clean rag or paper towel.
